Canon G15- Preview

Canon G15- Preview
I've had less than a half a day with the new Canon G15, but it's been a very pleasurable experience. Right out of the box and in the hand I knew this camera was the G series camera I've been waiting for from Canon. No it doesn't have everything I'd prefer, but its likely to be the best one yet. I know this line of camera well, I've owned, reviewed, or evaluated every G series camera since the G6. Therefore I'm intimate to what the G15 has in common with its predecessors already.

That said, I think it would be a grave mistake for anyone to dismiss the G15 for any reason- whether it be other cameras in its class that seem more attractive, the lack of a tilting screen, a sensor smaller than some competitors, or whatever. The G15 is in essence a totally revamped G10 in many respects. I know many shooters who still swear by the G10, but I think the new G15 is the camera upgrade G10 users want the most. Some prefer a fixed screen, and there are advantages to such despite what may be popular to think.

I have a lot more to talk about on the G15, and a full review is definitely coming. As a reviewer I often have several cameras from many manufacturers at once. I'll be honest and say that whatever camera stands out the most, or, that I like the most at the time, is often the camera I'll choose to prioritize with what little time I have to write. I'm a father, husband, and I have a full time career to boot. So I have to choose my time wisely when I write.

As soon as I put the G15 in my hand, I smiled. It's balance, excellent textured finish, like a rock build quality instantly made a stunning impression. When I turned the G15 on and focused in a dark room, my smile almost made my cheeks hurt. This is one responsive G series camera. The pictures (press images) of the G15 simply do not do it any justice. Holding it, is what its all about.

Now I have a lot of testing to do, but what I saw so far, and mixed with experience and in depth knowledge of other G series cameras (including the G1X), I think I'll be inclined to say that the G15 will be my favorite of any G camera from Canon so far. My final decision will come in the G15 Review- so please be patient.

For now- I'm off to have a blast with the new G15 and push its imaging capabilities outside of the envelope.
